Emotion Centered Singing is the unique approach, the “secret recipe” that is exclusive to The David Jaanz School of Singing and has created a new generation of stars locally and internationally, singing coaches and hundreds of professional careers in all fields and styles. Emotion Centered Singing works on developing solid technique but also with a stronger emphasis on the ‘Inner singer’.

Most singing schools simply do scale after scale which I call ‘outer singer’ coaching or a pure technique approach. This often results in a majority of singers that are generic, emotionally shallow and that honestly don’t stand out! Our success locally and internationally attests to the power of Emotion Centered Singing and our focus on the ‘inner singer’ and the style of our classes. Finding the ‘inner singer’ is the key to greatness and this is why our singers succeed locally and internationally. You cannot expect to compete with Beyonce, Usher or U2 and get the record deals by simply ‘copying’ and ‘singing higher and louder!’

The great tragedy is that many students become victims of what I call the ‘killing fields’ as coaches replace ‘greatness’ with ‘assumed correctness’ and a dogmatic one way approach. Students are applauded when they are good copiers or sing higher and higher or the kinks are smoothed out in search of the generic perfect one way approach.

My strong view is sometimes the rawness and ‘edge’ in a singer needed to make it is trained out of the singer by generic ‘smoothing out’ coaching. Emotion Centered singing preserves the kinks and uniqueness in a singer whilst reinforcing solid technique that is unique to the individual (what works for the individual … Not a one way approach!)

Greatness is sometimes found in ‘less,’ the emergence of an artist with a unique sound and approach. This is what Emotion Centered singing is all about! Brooke Fraser and Missy Higgins are two examples of this.

“Emotion Centered Singing is a global phenomenon that works and creates stars and will continue creating stars. We will keep doing it year after year – Just watch this space!”
